MODATEX - The Centre for the Professional Training of the Textile, Apparel, Clothing and Wool Industry – is created in 2011 through decree no. 135/2011 of 4 April, based on a protocol signed between the Institute for Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP,I.P.), the Textile and Clothing Association of Portugal (ATP), the National Association of the Clothing and Confection Industries (ANIVEC/APIV) and the National Association of Wool Manufacturers (ANIL).
This Centre has a national scope – its head office is in Porto, it has delegations in Lisbon and Covilhã, and it has centres in Vila das Aves and Barcelos – and aims to contribute to better strategic and operational coordination of training in the sector, to respond more effectively to the qualification, improvement and retraining needs of people and organisations and to provide close technical support to all players of the textile and clothing industry.
MODATEX’s activity covers:
The Centre develops Training in the areas of fashion design, textile design, IT applied to design, fashion management and marketing, fashion merchandising, textile arts, industrial pattern making and production, pattern making and production for atelier, tailoring, knitting, weaving, spinning, textile enrichment, quality in the textile and clothing industry, production planning and management, maintenance, hygiene and safety at work, management and commerce, communication and organizational behaviour, working time and methods, international textile and clothing commerce and pedagogical training for trainers.
MODATEX follows a socially responsible conduct and its quality policy is based on compliance of the requirements of the quality management system, aiming at continuous improvement and the satisfaction of all stakeholders.

The entities that created MODATEX are as follows:
The National Association of Wool Manufacturers (ANIL) is a sectoral structure that associates and represents textile companies operating in the Wool subsector in Portugal.
It represents and supports the interests of the wool industries, meeting their needs to guarantee their development.
The National Association of the Clothing and Confection Industries – ANIVEC/APIV – represents the Portuguese clothing and confection industries alongside several national (the government, CIP, unions, the press) and international (IAF, Euratex, IFTF, Ginetex, Intercolor) institutions, bringing together companies that manufacture and distribute the most diverse products. Internally, ANIVEC/APIV offers a wide range of technical, economic, legal, commercial, technological, informative and fashion services to its associates.
The Textile and Clothing Association of Portugal (ATP) is a national Employers’ Association which became the largest representative organization of the Portuguese Textile and Clothing Sector and one of the most important in Europe with the merger between APIM (the Portuguese Knitting and Clothes Manufacturing Industries Association) and APT (the Portuguese Textile and Clothing Association) in 2003.
The Institute for Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP,I.P.) is a public entity governed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, who is responsible for implementing the employment and vocational training policies defined and approved by the government.
