Sustainability is a global priority in the 21st century. Nevertheless, representatives of the fashion and clothing sector in Europe have identified sustainability as a key priority for the future of this industrial sector, as this industry is currently responsible for producing around 20% of the global wastewater and 10% of the global carbon emissions.

As such, there is an urgent need to create and adapt innovative practices related to sustainable production and consumption in the textile and fashion sector, and vocational education and training (VET) plays a key role in including and promoting these practices in educational settings for future application in the textile and clothing production sector.

It is in this context that the MODISTO Project (Moda y Diseño Sostenible) is created, with the aim of designing teaching materials based on innovative practices of sustainable production and consumption to be included in the curricula of VET courses which will consequently lead to equipping their learners with these skills.

 

The main objectives of this project are:

To develop an e-learning course to be used to support VET teachers/trainers, whose contents will be related to eco-design and sustainability, and its use aimed at the clothing and fashion sector;

Promote and disseminate the e-learning course in the VET centres of the four participating countries;

Make the e-learning course resources openly available and promoted internationally as an open educational resource.

 

The MODISTO project involves vocational training centres, professional associations in the fashion and clothing sector, organisations involved in the implementation of vocational programmes and the creation of teaching resources from Spain, Portugal, the Czech Republic and Italy.

The MODISTO e-learning course has four modules: i. Eco-design; ii. Sustainable materials; iii. Eco-labelling and certification; iii. Sustainability (fashion and clothing); with the inclusion of case-based activities.

 

MODISTO is a project funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ Programme, which started in November 2020 and is expected to end in October 2022 (24 months).
